Goodbye Alien Spouse, Hello Permanent Resident!

Yay! Sam got his green card! Well, not the card itself, which will come in about 6 weeks, but the provision thereof in the form of a little red stamp in his passport. How exciting. The interview itself only took about 20 minutes. Oh, and we were placed under oath.

Then, I took Sam to O-trip, we had some lunch at the caf, I called into work because I still feel pooey, and I got to sit through Sam's afternoon lecture, which was a treat. Its fun to see Sam being professorial.

So, yes, praise the Lord on our immigration proceedings, and as for Sam's PhD placement, we are still on pins & needles. But trying to remember God's sovereignty.

nervous

Sam and I are about to head up to the city to be interviewed by Uncle Sam who is trying to find out if our marriage and 'shared life' are legitimate, and make sure Sam will not become a public charge at any time. If we are successful, Sam will get a green card. We have pictures, bills, various licenses, bank statements, forms, letters of employment, all kinds of stuff. I'm sure it will be fine, but its just still kind of nerve-wracking.

On a more consistent note, I think I have another sinus infection. I can't believe all the crap those little brats carry around. It is insane. Hitherto, I always thought I had a hearty constitution. Now, I'm like one of those recessive-gened people that you always take pity on because they get sick all the time. One day, very soon, I will have an immune system of pure steel.

$55 later

So, day 4 of having no energy, an ugly chesty cough with wheezing, and a neverendingly snotty nose made me decide to go ahead and see a doctor just to make sure that Avian Sinus Infection I had last weekend hadn't turned into Avian Pneumonia or Consumption. 1 hour and 2 1/2 magazines later, I'm told that welp, it looks like the same nasty virus that's just going around, heh heh! Darn. No easy fix prescription drugs. Just more sleep and liquids. Oh well, at least my appetite is back, cause I've got some big plans for dinner tomorrow night.

Heidi loaned me this great cookbook by Nigel Slater, a British chef. Simple, yet sensuous. I'm thinking warm potato, spinach & parmesan salad, followed by garlic prawns, roast chicken drumsticks with honey & orange, and finally Nigella Lawson's Sticky Chocolate Pudding. Yum! I'm sure Sam will think of a way to add some curry powder into these recipes; we'll see.

In other news... I didn't realize how taxing constant illness can be on a relationship/ marriage. I mean, I suppose this is why the vows say 'in sickness or in health'. Being a 99.9% healthy person, I pretty much didn't really think this one out before, but since about day 5 at the ol' day care I have been either sick or half-way recovered. And its been stressful! I don't know if Sam & I can take it, to be honest. This, aside from the emotional stresses involved with herding the little guys 8 hours a day. But rather, we're having our doubts on the wisdom of subjecting our marriage to these stresses, especially with various family stresses back in England. But, yes... we'll see. Just have to figure out what to do, I suppose.

Also, Sam is supposed to hear from Alabama this week, oh boy!
